A fast-paced, two-team relay that gets the whole class racing to read, build and match CVCC words.
What's included
Nine sets of 9 words. Sets 1–6 (a, e, i, o, u and a mixed set) are fully illustrated through all five stages. Sets 7–9 are mixed word-grid challenges.

How it works
A Teacher's Master Card lines up 81 target words across nine sets — one for each short vowel (a, e, i, o, u), then four mixed sets — so you always know what's coming next.
Five stages of increasing challenge
- Stage 1 — Picture Relay: listen to the word and race to find the matching picture.
- Stage 2 — Choose the Ending: choose the correct ending to complete each word.
- Stage 3 — Build the Word: choose the correct beginning sound to complete each word.
- Stage 4 — Connect Picture & Word: race to match each picture to the correct word.
- Stage 5 — Word Relay: listen to the word and race to find it on the word grid.
- Teacher's Choice: blank grids so you can drop in your own words or pictures for extra practice.
What is the CVCC Quick-Fire Team Relay?
The CVCC Quick-Fire Team Relay is a lively, whole-class team game. Split the class into two teams and work through rounds of increasing challenge, all drawn from the same bank of CVCC words — with an included Teacher's Master Card so every answer is ready at a glance.
It's designed as a quick, no-prep review — open the file on your whiteboard, split into teams, and go.
How We Play
Two teams, one board each — children take turns racing up to complete their team's challenge while their teammates cheer them on, then swap rounds and go again.
